Wow, my blog has been all quiet since March! First my internet went down for three weeks, then I had a series of away jobs with work at a location with no mobile reception or internet. Then to top it off I had a plumber flood my hobby/computer room with putrefied waste water! That has been a long saga by itself.
But all of that aside, time to share my big news (If I can post about non hobby related stuff)...
The wife and I are expecting our first baby. It's awesome. I really didn't have a preference for the gender but since I have found out that it is a boy I have become pretty excited.
My wife is 28 weeks now- just starting the third trimester. She is a type 1 diabetic which complicates thing a little. In the past we have had a lot of bad luck with pregnancies (last time she miscarried on my birthday which wasn't fun) but now we are a long way into it and the doctors say that all is looking good.
As for a hobby update, I have another battle report and narrative to add to my on going campaign. Also I have got back to my cavalry to which have been on the to do list for ages. I have been playing with some interesting house rules too! I'll start posting these up over the next week or so.
It seems there has been heaps going on while I have been off line too.
I almost missed the Curious Constructs' Kickstarter, but jumped in just in time.
Faeit 212 got the boot- devastating news!
And my local GW shut down.
It had been 'my local' since it opened in the 90's. While I am a bit nostalgic about it, if I am honest, I couldn't care less. It had changed so much over the years that it really wasn't a cool place to visit any more.
Every time they ran some event that I might be interested in, I found out that it involved buying loads of new things from the store. Sure, its a business I get that, but if a kid drops his whole months pocket money on models at least treat him well for a few weeks before trying to gouge out his pockets again.
For example, the store ran an all night hobby session in the holidays. It ran all day, then all night then the following day! As a sleep researcher I love seeing people attempt to do things for long periods of time with no sleep. A lot of people thought it would be a good opportunity to get through their miniature backlog. Except no. You could only work on stuff that you purchased THAT DAY. "What's that, you just brought a battle force last week? Sorry too bad, if you wanna join in you will have to buy an other one!"
If it was a week long event at Warhammer World this might be reasonable, but at just a local store you need to give people a break.
If I may continue my rant a little longer...
Its not just about the stupid price...
...Its that, time and time again the Ausy gamer get shafted by GW.
The choice has always been suck it up or go play something else.
which a lot of people have...
And then, after your local GW store is gone, your favourite blogs have been deleted, and stores can't even get the overpriced models that you want...
I am so happy that I am having a son.... and so sad that he probably won't be able to play Warhammer 40k.
But all of that aside, time to share my big news (If I can post about non hobby related stuff)...

"You can buy stuff from us when WE say that you can buy stuff from us!" |
Then on top of all that we also complain about the same things that everyone else does, cue Finecast, the lawyers etc etc.....
